STOCKHOLM, Sweden – September 9, 2016 – Edgeware, the pioneering TV content delivery network (CDN) provider, today announced that it has joined the Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) OpenNFV Partner Program as an official application partner. By joining HPE OpenNFV ecosystem and adopting the ETSI-compliant reference architecture, Edgeware will help TV providers launch new services faster, easier and more cost effectively through the virtualization of network functions.
The HPE OpenNFV Program provides an open, standards–based network functions virtualization (NFV) reference architecture, offering service providers ready-to-deploy solutions that can enable the transformation from legacy networks to NFV.
As part of the partner ecosystem, Edgeware will validate its technology within the NFV framework. Edgeware’s software-based virtualized TV server already uses standard x86-based hardware and cloud infrastructure to deliver TV without delays, buffering and glitches.
“Becoming part of the HPE OpenNFV Program is a logical step as the NFV industry initiative represents a major shift inside the world’s network infrastructure where we already play a major role,” said Göran Appelquist, Edgeware’s CTO. “TV traffic dominates the infrastructure and our scalable three-layer architecture – designed specifically for TV services across platforms – provides a valuable solution to the NFV community.”
“An open, robust ecosystem is vital to advancements that will benefit the entire industry,” said Werner Schaefer, VP Sales & GTM, Communications Solutions Business, at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “Validating Edgeware’s VNFs with HPE OpenNFV architecture and framework will help in accelerating the adoption of NFV for TV service providers.”
