Edgeware’s Video Consolidation Platform Enables now TV to Deliver Cloud DVR, Catch-Up TV, VOD and Multiscreen Services to Its 1.2 Million Subscribers
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS–(Marketwired – Sep 13, 2014) – IBC, Stand 14.B20 — Edgeware, the technology leader in distributed video delivery, today announced that now TV, Hong Kong’s largest quadruple-play pay-TV provider, has selected Edgeware’s Video Consolidation Platform (VCP) to replace its current IPTV delivery system, based on the previous successful deployment of the Edgeware multiscreen solution. Edgeware´s VCP enables now TV to efficiently deliver new and current services at massive scale to all device types without having to manage duplicate, siloed delivery networks.
In addition, Edgeware’s VCP solution has enabled now TV to launch an enhanced cloud DVR and time-shift services for their Super Sports Pack subscribers with instant recordings and playback of ongoing matches or scheduled recordings using a mobile device. Edgeware’s VCP platform efficiently records and caches cloud DVR content directly onto now TV’s network, where recorded programs are stored for up to 10 days.
“Edgeware has proven to be a very reliable and professional partner who provides an extremely stable and scalable platform,” said Keith Huang, VP of product management at PCCW. “Based on the consolidation benefits and their highly-efficient cloud DVR solution, migrating more and more advanced video offerings onto the Edgeware VCP was a natural next step. now TV customers will be able to enjoy their on-demand content across multiple screens from set-top-box to mobile device, a truly anytime anywhere entertainment experience.”
“Working with an innovative and highly recognized operator like now TV, who has successfully pioneered both IPTV and multiscreen services, is a recognition of the quality of our products,” said Joachim Roos, CEO of Edgeware. “We are committed to helping now TV grow their business and stay ahead of the game, by leveraging the unique scalability, service agility and quality of experience of Edgeware’s solution.”
now TV has used Edgeware’s multiscreen solution since 2012 to deliver live and on-demand streaming through its “now Player” app for iOS and Android devices. With the solution, now TV can handle large traffic peaks driven by its premium sports services, such as exclusive British Premier League matches. Thousands of simultaneous viewers were expected during the live match and Edgeware’s platform was selected specifically for its ability to rapidly scale to meet this demand.
The Edgeware VCP is a highly accelerated video delivery solution that enables massive consolidation of content origin and delivery network infrastructure. A single system efficiently delivers all existing and new services to legacy set-top Boxes (STB) and newer, multiscreen devices.
Meet Edgeware in Booth 14.B20 at IBC in Amsterdam, September 12-16, or at the SCTE Cable Tec Expo in Denver, Sept 23-25, in Booth #230.
